21:00 - 22:00 | Julianna Barwick's experimental soundscapes are in part informed by her experience growing up in Louisiana and Missouri, singing weekly with her church congregation and school choirs. Her loop-based compositions replicate the soaring textures of a large choral group using only her voice, a loop station and some occasional instrumentation. Her extraordinary range and vocal technique propels the music into a variety of different emotional spaces, from feverish to tranquil. After her debut 'The Magic Place' (2011, Asthmatic Kitty), she released a somewhat more electronic collaborative album with Helado Negro on the same label this year under the moniker OMBRE.
20:00 - 20:40 | Mad About Mountains is Piet De Pessemier's (Krakow) solo project. Described by himself as "pure campfire songs, no special effects but lots of reverb", we see him taking the same road as Neil Young or Townes van Zandt, assisted by members of Isbells, Marble Sounds and Brothers Deere. The untitled debut album came out this year on Zeal records!
